Representation of gender in 'Sherlock' and 'The Tudors'
Revision Task Re-watch the clip of 'The Tudors' from the lesson- the link is on the PowerPoint- and read the short essay. Think about Laura Mulvey's male gaze (re-read slide 33 on the PowerPoint), is there evidence that the sequence is presented through the perspective of the male? Or does the sequence subvert the male gaze and challenge stereotypical representations of gender? Remember, the sequence you will watch in the exam will most likely offer COMPLEX REPRESENTATIONS and will not portray characters as simple stereotypes.
Representation of gender in film posters
Total film gender representation task from Ms Olive
Remember this? Think about the way this magazine front cover constructs gender. Like ANY media text, everything you see is carefully selected and constructed in order to create meaning. Consider these questions: How is gender being represented? Is it a typical representation or a stereotypical one? How has media language been used to create meaning? Who is the audience?

Representation: 'The Mob's Brief Rule'
Looking at the photo of the young man being restrained by a riot police officer (see introduction PowerPoint), the picture paints a very different story to what actually happened as told by the blonde lady in the photo. This is representation. A person, group of people, an event, a place, presented to an audience in a particular way. This is an example of how certain words and images, taken out of context can affect opinions.
